Born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts, Mark is a 4th generation entrepreneur. Growing up, he watched his grandfather, aunt, and grand-uncle run the family's manufacturing business in Holbrook, Massachusetts. The family's manufacturing business, Newcan, was established by Mark's great-great grandfather in 1902. Newcan was sold in 1993, and his aunt stayed as CEO until 1999.
Though the family business was sold, Mark stayed connected to the business world, working as a lawyer specializing in mergers and acquisitions. He has worked with various businesses to help them navigate the challenges of selling and growing. However, Mark wanted to get closer to the people behind the businesses he helped, so he stepped away from the big firms and put his skills to work, helping business owners directly.
Today, Mark's mission is simple: to keep the legacy of one small business alive and help them grow. In his free time, Mark enjoys skiing, traveling, and spending time with his wife, Marisa, an employment lawyer, and their dog, Brady.
Our managing partner is a history buff and his favorite historical figure is Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt. Sagamore Hill was his favorite place in the world, the place he went to gain solitude. Teddy's philosophy was to live the "strenuous life". As an entrepreneur you are well acquainted with the strenuous life. As a recognition of this philosophy and the humility that we approach an acquisition with, we decided that an ode to Teddy was only fitting for our firm's name. You probably know the "Man in the Arena" speech. So we won't reproduce it below. However, we will include one of our other favorite Teddy quotes below:
"Nothing in this world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty."
